Timing of arrival of rosy-finch flocks at feeders

As reported on the tables and logs accessible on this page, the average date on which the rosy-finches arrived at the feeders during the ten winters (2001 - 2012) was November 9 (range October 27 - November 14, median date November 10).

The first flocks containing all three species arrived between November 8 - 22 (average November 15, median November 14th). The reported average size of these first all-species flocks was 29 birds, though some of the larger flocks were reported as 30+, 50+ 50+ and 60+ (median 23 birds in first 3-species flocks).

Conclusion? It appears that anyone planning to visit Sandia Crest on the days before or after the Festival of the Cranes (which runs November 19-24) has a very good chance of seeing flocks of all three species.
