Here is Dave Weaver's latest update of entries in the sightings log. Since we wish to accurately pinpoint the departure of flocks and stragglers, please enter negative or low number sightings in the log, and do post here as well. In the meantime, I will keep the flag flying. Ken
Hi Ken,
As you know, I went up to the Crest this morning. It was 25 degrees (F) with winds in the 20-30mph range. The wind was building while I was at the Crest and there are a couple of fronts passing over the area in the next couple of days, so it probably will be windier for the near future. The road was clear except for a few slippery spots on curves in the shade and a few areas of small snow drifts that narrowed the road. The parking lots were clear.
I have attached a small log update. There seem to be even fewer finches right now and with reports of the Sandhill cranes and geese leaving the valley earlier than usual, it seems the finches may well leave early this year. We will try to bracket (or even fix precisely) their departure, whenever that may be.
