Rosy-finch numbers down; flocks in 25-40 range

Latest report and copy of sightings log from Dave Weaver who, with wife Fran Lusso, is co-coordinator of the rosy-finch feeding project--

Hi Ken,

I went up to the Crest this morning.  It was about 35 degrees (F) with winds between 30 - 40 mph and a high temperature of about 60 degrees expected today.  The road and the parking lots were clear except for small patches of ice in the shade on the sides of the road.  The snow cover is melting fast.

As you will see from the attached log update, there are still rosy finches, although the overall number seems to be decreased.  The Crest House staff say that flocks are smaller and less frequent, coming to the feeder mostly in the morning.  The staff expressed the opinion that the birds will soon leave for the north.  We will be sure to let you know once no birds have been seen for several days in a row.

Hope all is well for you and yours!

Dave
